3.01 reviewsThirty miles east of downtown San Diego, Escondido sits in the agricultural heart of North San Diego County — a valley of avocado orchards, citrus groves, and chaparral-covered hills that produces a setting dramatically different from the coastal resort corridor to the west. Escondido RV Resort occupies this San Pasqual Valley landscape, offering 125 big-rig-friendly full-hookup sites among the orchard environment and serving as a practical base for a collection of regional attractions that no other campground in Southern California can match for variety within a short radius.
The 125 full-hookup sites accommodate large rigs throughout the property, with layouts designed for extended stays as much as weekend visits. The beautifully maintained grounds carry the agricultural character of San Pasqual Valley — mature trees, groomed common areas, and the overall sense of a property cared for year-round rather than maintained just for peak season. Pets are welcome throughout, and the North San Diego County climate — reliably mild, sunny, and low-humidity across all seasons — makes Escondido a legitimate year-round camping destination rather than a seasonal operation with a long off-season.
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park, minutes from the resort, is one of the most distinctive wildlife experiences in the American West. Unlike a conventional zoo, the park's expansive open habitats put rhinoceroses, giraffes, lions, and elephants in environments large enough to display natural social behavior, and the Africa Tram safari carries guests through the largest enclosures at a pace that reveals wildlife interactions impossible to observe in traditional zoo settings. The park's tethered hot air balloon, when operating, lifts guests 400 feet above the grounds for views across the valley to the Pacific on clear days — an add-on that turns a zoo visit into something closer to an expedition.
Escondido's wine scene has developed significantly around San Pasqual Valley, with Orfila Vineyards & Winery producing award-winning Rhône-style wines with tasting room views across the valley that are worth the visit on their own. Cordiano Winery pairs its diverse wine selection with wood-fired pizza in a relaxed outdoor setting that makes for an easy afternoon outing from camp. LEGOLAND California, in Carlsbad about 25 miles west, is a natural family day-trip destination for travelers with children under twelve. Balboa Park in San Diego — with 17 museums, the San Diego Zoo, botanical gardens, and performance venues — makes for a full-day cultural excursion about 30 minutes west.
Escondido RV Resort operates year-round, with spring and fall offering ideal weather for safari park visits, winery exploration, and the chaparral hiking that the San Pasqual Valley and adjacent preserves provide. Summer extends the activity radius to the coast — SeaWorld, Balboa Park, and the beaches are all within 30 minutes or less, making Escondido a practical inland base for coastal day-tripping without the expense of beachfront accommodations. Book well ahead for spring break and peak summer dates when demand at this proximity to San Diego's major attractions keeps the resort consistently at or near full capacity.
