Hill's Landing & RV Park

Cross, South Carolina

Hill's Landing and RV Park in Cross, South Carolina, is a peaceful retreat nestled between Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie — a Santee Cooper country campground in Berkeley County with well-maintained RV sites offering the comforts of home in the most celebrated freshwater striped bass and catfish fishery in the American Southeast. Cross's Berkeley County position between the two lakes of the Santee Cooper system, on US-176 between Moncks Corner and Santee, gives the campground the specific Santee Cooper Lakes character of a campground positioned in the isthmus between South Carolina's two largest lakes — the 110,000 combined acres of Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie that make the Santee Cooper system the largest freshwater body in the American Southeast and one of the most productive freshwater fisheries in the country. Well-maintained full-hookup RV sites between Lake Marion and Lake Moultrie give Hill's Landing the specific Santee Cooper campground position that the Cross, South Carolina, peninsula between the two lakes specifically enables — the campground's between-lakes location gives guests the practical access to both Lake Marion's legendary striped bass and largemouth bass fishery and Lake Moultrie's catfish and striped bass production in a single campground base that the Cross area's geographic centrality between the two lakes' public boat launches specifically provides. Pets are welcome. Lake Marion, 110,000 acres of the Santee Cooper system's upper reservoir in Clarendon, Orangeburg, and Calhoun Counties, is the largest lake in South Carolina — a reservoir whose forested stump fields (the remnant of the flooded bottomland forest from the 1941 impoundment) give the striped bass and largemouth bass the specific structural habitat that makes Lake Marion one of the most consistently productive large-lake bass fisheries in the Southeast. The world-record freshwater striped bass of 55 pounds was caught in the Santee Cooper system in 1963, and the current record's legacy continues to draw the trophy striper market to the Santee Lakes from across the eastern United States. Santee State Park, 20 miles northwest of Cross on US-301 in Orangeburg County, provides the Lake Marion shoreline recreation — the park's two fishing piers, the boat ramp, the nature trails, and the reconstructed Santee Indian mound give the state park the complete public access to Lake Marion's eastern shore that the surrounding private development otherwise limits. The park's observation pier gives guests the most accessible Lake Marion sunset viewshed of the reservoir's upper basin in the Santee Cooper system's most publicly accessible state park unit. Hill's Landing and RV Park serves guests year-round in Berkeley County's South Carolina coastal plain climate, where the mild winters sustain the year-round Santee Cooper striped bass and catfish fishing market and the spring spawn season from March through May and the fall cooling water from September through November representing the two most productive large-fish angling periods in the Santee Cooper system. Charleston, 50 miles southeast of Cross on US-176 and US-17, is South Carolina's most visited historic city — the College of Charleston's antebellum campus, the Rainbow Row's pastel Georgian terrace houses, and the Fort Sumter National Monument's harbor ferry give the campground's southeastern day-trip the complete Charleston cultural heritage experience. Reserve sites ahead for the spring striped bass spawn season and the fall fishing peak.
