Sweet Minihaha Campground in Brodhead, Wisconsin, is a riverside camping destination along the scenic Sugar River in Green County — a family campground and go-to destination for camping near Madison that blends riverside recreation with easy access to the outdoor adventures and heritage of southwestern Wisconsin's Swiss and Norwegian immigrant farming countryside. Brodhead's Green County position on US-14 in the Sugar River valley gives the campground the specific rural Wisconsin character of an agricultural county that the New Glarus and Monroe communities have made nationally recognized for their Swiss cheese heritage, the New Glarus Brewing Company's craft brewery, and the Sugar River State Trail's rail-trail corridor through the river valley's pasture and woodland landscape. The Sugar River's flatwater canoe and kayak character and the river valley's natural scenery give the campground its specific riverside identity. Riverside camping with the complete family campground infrastructure along the Sugar River give Sweet Minihaha the specific river-camp character that the Sugar River's location in Green County's agricultural landscape sustains between the New Glarus Swiss heritage community and the Brodhead market town — the river's canoe and kayak access, the riverside site character, and the campground's proximity to the Sugar River State Trail's 23-mile rail-trail corridor through the valley give guests the combination of water recreation and multi-use trail access that the Green County camping corridor specifically provides. Pets are welcome. The Sugar River State Trail, a 23-mile rail-trail on the former Chicago and North Western Railway's Green County branch, extends from New Glarus south to Brodhead through the Sugar River valley's farmland, wetlands, and river crossings — a trail that passes through five historic rail bridges over the Sugar River and gives cyclists, hikers, and in-season cross-country skiers the complete valley corridor route through the most scenic and most historically distinctive section of Green County's agricultural landscape. The trail's connection to the Badger State Trail at the Sugar River junction gives cyclists the extended multi-trail network through southern Wisconsin's agricultural corridor. New Glarus, nine miles north of Brodhead on WI-69 in the Sugar River valley, is the most authentically Swiss-heritage community in the Midwest — a village founded in 1845 by settlers from the Glarus Canton of Switzerland whose Swiss-style architecture, the Wilhelm Tell outdoor drama performed annually in September, and the New Glarus Brewing Company's Spotted Cow Farmhouse Ale (the most sought-after locally distributed craft beer in Wisconsin) give the village its specific cultural identity as the "America's Little Switzerland" designation specifically reflects. The Chalet of the Golden Fleece museum's Swiss folk art collection and the Swiss Historical Village's 12-building heritage complex give New Glarus the most complete Swiss immigrant heritage preserved in any single American community. Sweet Minihaha Campground serves guests through Green County's Wisconsin camping season from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, with the summer river recreation season and the Sugar River State Trail cycling sustaining the peak family camping demand and the fall dairy and cheese country touring from October through November giving the Green County landscape its agricultural heritage tourism peak. Monroe, 14 miles southwest of Brodhead, is the Swiss cheese capital of the United States — the home of Emmi Roth's Käse USA facilities and the Monroe County Cheese Days festival held in even-numbered years in the largest cheese festival in the United States. Reserve sites ahead for the summer peak and the Wilhelm Tell Drama and Cheese Days event weekends.
