Cedar Canyon Retreat

Cedar City, Utah

20 RV Sites

Set five miles up Cedar Canyon from the historic town of Cedar City, Utah, along the scenic byway of State Highway 14, Cedar Canyon Retreat occupies a high-elevation mountain canyon setting that combines direct access to southern Utah's extraordinary national park circuit with a canyon retreat character defined by the cedar and pine forests, red rock formations, and cool altitude that distinguish the upper Cedar Canyon landscape from the desert terrain of the valley floor below. The retreat's position along Highway 14—one of Utah's designated scenic byways—places guests at the gateway to a mountain corridor that connects the Great Basin valley of Cedar City with the high plateau terrain of the Cedar Breaks country above. An outdoor pool, community fire pit, general store, recreation center, clean restrooms and showers, and Wi-Fi access address the daily comfort and social infrastructure of a stay at Cedar Canyon Retreat, and the big-rig-friendly site configuration allows large Class A motorcoaches and fifth wheels to access the canyon location without the maneuvering limitations that can restrict larger rigs at mountain campgrounds. The ping pong facilities and biking and hiking access from the property give guests active on-site recreation options in addition to the dramatic canyon scenery that frames the retreat's outdoor living environment. Cedar Breaks National Monument, accessible via the continuation of Highway 14 to the Cedar Breaks rim above the retreat, is one of the most visually spectacular and undervisited of the federal units in the southern Utah canyon country—a natural amphitheater of eroded limestone hoodoos, spires, and fins in vivid shades of red, orange, and purple that rises to over 10,000 feet above sea level on the edge of the Markagunt Plateau. The monument's high-elevation subalpine meadows bloom with remarkable wildflower displays from mid-July through August, and the rim overlooks deliver views across the Escalante Desert and the Colorado Plateau that are among the most expansive in the Utah national park corridor. The Cedar City area provides access to multiple national parks and monuments within a half-day drive from the retreat. Zion National Park's canyon hiking and narrows wading are accessible to the southwest, Bryce Canyon National Park's iconic hoodoo formations to the east, and the remote canyon country of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument extends the southern Utah landscape beyond the main park circuit. Brian Head Resort, just up the road from Cedar Breaks, provides mountain biking and lift-served cycling in summer at elevations above 11,000 feet, and Cedar City's Utah Shakespeare Festival—one of the largest Shakespeare festivals in North America—presents professional theater in outdoor and indoor venues each summer season. Cedar Canyon Retreat is open through the warm-weather mountain camping season, with the high-elevation Cedar Canyon location experiencing snowfall through April and again beginning in October. The peak summer season from June through September delivers the most reliable access to Cedar Breaks wildflowers, the Shakespeare Festival, and the full national park circuit. Advance reservations are recommended for summer holiday weekends and the July wildflower peak at Cedar Breaks, when southern Utah's visitor infrastructure throughout Iron County reaches its seasonal capacity.
