New Earth Estate
Markdale, Ontario
6 Cabins, 7 Tipis, 1 Tiny House
New Earth Estate in Markdale, Ontario, is a year-round eco-retreat on 50 acres of forest, river, and rolling hills in the Grey Highlands of Grey County — a nature-first retreat property just far enough from Toronto to feel genuinely removed from the city's pace, offering accommodation that restores the connection to the natural world that the Greater Toronto Area's suburban density makes specifically difficult to find within a comfortable weekend drive. Markdale's Grey County position in the southern Georgian Bay watershed gives the estate the specific combination of forested glacier-carved terrain, cold trout streams, and the Blue Mountains ski and recreational infrastructure that makes the Grey Highlands one of Ontario's most consistently rewarding rural retreat destinations for the Toronto metropolitan market.
The 50-acre eco-retreat's varied terrain of forest, river, and rolling hills gives guests the immediate nature immersion across multiple landscape types on a single property — the forest's canopy character, the river's acoustic and visual presence, and the rolling hills' viewshed combine in a natural estate setting that gives the eco-retreat its specific appeal for guests seeking the restoration of natural environment contact that urban daily life consistently interrupts. The year-round operation gives guests the seasonal variety of the Grey County landscape across all four seasons. Pets are welcome.
The Blue Mountains, 40 kilometres south of Markdale on Collingwood's Georgian Bay shore, is Ontario's most developed four-season mountain resort — the ski area's 36 runs and the Blue Mountain Village's hotels, restaurants, spa facilities, and summer mountain biking give the Blue Mountains the complete Ontario resort infrastructure that sustains it as the primary ski and resort destination for the Greater Toronto Area's weekend travel market. The Beaver Valley, between Markdale and the Blue Mountains in the Grey Highlands, provides the quieter and more intimate ski and snowboard experience at the Beaver Valley Ski Club that the smaller ski hill's wooded terrain specifically rewards.
Georgian Bay, accessible 50 kilometres north of Markdale via Owen Sound and the Bruce Peninsula, is one of the most spectacular freshwater bodies in North America — the 6th Great Lake whose 30,000 islands on the bay's eastern shore constitute the Georgian Bay Islands National Park's archipelago, and whose Tobermory's Fathom Five National Marine Park protects the underwater ship-wrecks and crystal-clear freshwater visibility that make Georgian Bay's Tobermory area one of the premier freshwater scuba diving and glass-bottom boat tour destinations in the Great Lakes system. The Bruce Peninsula National Park's Grotto sea cave on the lake's limestone escarpment shore is one of Ontario's most photographed natural features.
New Earth Estate serves guests year-round in Grey County's four-season continental climate, where the winter ski season from December through March, the spring shoulder season's wildflower and maple syrup production window from March through May, the summer Georgian Bay and trail season from June through September, and the fall foliage from late September through October sustain the eco-retreat's programming across all seasonal visitor motivations. Eugenia Falls Conservation Area, 15 kilometres east of Markdale in the Beaver River valley, preserves the 30-metre waterfall on the Beaver River in a conservation area that gives the immediate Grey Highlands day-trip range its most dramatic natural feature. Reserve accommodations ahead for the ski season holiday periods and the fall foliage weekends when Grey County's retreat accommodation fills from the Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo markets.
