Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort

Macedon, New York

61 RV Sites, 4 Cabins, 2 Tent Sites

Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort in Macedon, New York, sits along the Historic Erie Canal and the Erie Canal Trail in Wayne County's Finger Lakes Wine Country — a resort on one of the most historically significant waterways in American history, where the 363-mile canal built from 1817 to 1825 transformed the American economy by connecting the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean and opened the interior of the continent to commercial trade in a project whose scale and ambition represented the most extraordinary engineering undertaking in early American history. Macedon's Wayne County position on the Erie Canal's western section gives guests the canal history access, the Finger Lakes wine region proximity, and the Rochester metropolitan connection that make the canal corridor one of the most richly layered day-trip environments in upstate New York. Full-hookup RV sites with access to the Erie Canal Trail's cycling and walking path give guests the immediate recreation connection to one of the most comprehensive rail-trail and canal-trail cycling networks in the northeastern United States — the Erie Canalway Trail provides 365 miles of multi-use path from Albany to Buffalo along the original canal towpath, giving cyclists the ability to travel the entire canal route from a resort that sits directly on the trail's western section. The resort's Finger Lakes Wine Country location adds the tasting room circuit and the vineyard touring experience that Wayne County and the surrounding Finger Lakes counties sustain from the Sodus Point shore of Lake Ontario south through the Seneca and Canandaigua Lake wine districts. Pets are welcome. The Erie Canal's impact on American development is difficult to overstate — the canal reduced freight shipping costs between Buffalo and New York City by approximately 95% when it opened in 1825, making New York City the financial capital of the United States and opening Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan to rapid settlement by making the Great Lakes region economically accessible from the East Coast for the first time. The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor's interpretive sites along the canal route preserve the original lift lock systems, aqueducts, and lock tender houses that the canal engineering required, giving canal history enthusiasts the opportunity to follow the waterway's physical evidence across the entire upstate New York corridor. Rochester, 15 miles west of Macedon on Interstate 490, is upstate New York's second-largest city and the home of three world-class cultural institutions: the Strong National Museum of Play (the most comprehensive museum dedicated to the history and cultural significance of play in the world, housing the World Video Game Hall of Fame), the George Eastman Museum (the world's oldest photography museum, in Eastman's personal estate), and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's season at Eastman Theatre, designed by the same Eastman whose Kodak Company made Rochester the center of the photographic film industry for a century. Red's Twilight on the Erie RV Resort operates through upstate New York's camping season from spring through fall, with the Finger Lakes wine touring and Lake Ontario fishing seasons sustaining visitor interest across the full spring-to-fall window. Lake Ontario's Sodus Bay, 20 miles north of Macedon in Wayne County, is one of the most productive trophy trout and salmon fisheries in the Great Lakes — king salmon, steelhead, and lake trout in the bay and offshore waters give the Lake Ontario south shore a sport fishing reputation that draws anglers from across the northeastern United States and Ontario. Reserve sites ahead for the peak summer and the wine country harvest season from September through October.
