Ladd Pond Cabins And Campground
Stewartstown, New Hampshire
6 RV Sites, 4 Cabins
Ladd Pond Cabins and Campground in Stewartstown, New Hampshire, occupies the far northern reaches of the Connecticut Lakes region in Coös County, where New Hampshire narrows to a slim corridor between Vermont and Maine and the headwaters of the Connecticut River flow south from the Canadian border through a wilderness landscape of boreal forest, pristine cold-water ponds, and the remote sporting camp tradition that has drawn anglers, hunters, and wilderness campers to northern New Hampshire since the nineteenth century. The campground's year-round operations and fishing guide services make it a genuine four-season wilderness destination in one of the Northeast's most remote natural environments.
The campground provides both cabin rentals and full hookup RV sites alongside a suite of outdoor recreation-focused services: a general store for resupply, fishing guide access for guests who want local expertise on the Connecticut Lakes' cold-water fishery, firewood, and direct pond access for canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating, swimming, and the fishing that defines the primary recreation draw of the Stewartstown area. Biking the region's backcountry roads and off-road vehicle trails through the surrounding forest provide additional recreation for guests who want to explore beyond the pond's shoreline, and the pet-friendly policy accommodates the sporting dogs common in a destination with such strong hunting heritage.
The Connecticut Lakes of the New Hampshire North Country—First, Second, Third, and Fourth Connecticut Lakes ascending north toward the Quebec border—represent some of the most productive cold-water fishing environments in New England, where wild brook trout, landlocked salmon, and lake trout inhabit the deep, cold, oligotrophic lakes in conditions that approach what the region's fishery was before the twentieth century's settlement pressure reduced native trout populations across most of the Northeast. The Fourth Connecticut Lake, just 200 yards from the Canadian border, is the source of the Connecticut River—the longest river in New England—making the Stewartstown area the headwaters of the watershed that drains the entire northern New England interior.
The Connecticut Lakes State Forest and the adjacent Nash Stream State Forest protect most of the landscape surrounding Stewartstown in one of New Hampshire's most extensive contiguous public land areas, providing hunting, snowmobile, and off-road vehicle access across hundreds of thousands of acres of northern forest that maintain the character of the unbroken boreal landscape that defined this region before the twentieth century's industrial logging era. The moose population of northern Coös County is among the densest in the continental United States, and wildlife viewing for moose at dawn and dusk on the region's remote roads is a consistent highlight of North Country visits at any season.
Ladd Pond Cabins and Campground operates year-round in the New Hampshire North Country's subarctic-influenced climate, where the fishing season is compressed into a May-through-October window and the autumn hunting season from September through November brings a second wave of sporting visitors to the region's white-tailed deer, black bear, moose, and upland bird habitat. Winter's snowmobile season drives significant recreation demand in the Connecticut Lakes region, where the network of groomed trails through the surrounding state forest connects Stewartstown to the broader New Hampshire snowmobile corridor. The year-round operations reflect the outdoor sporting calendar's steady demand across all four seasons in northern New England.
