9 RV Sites

Dunroamin on Peters Pond in Sandwich, Massachusetts, provides a beloved family camping retreat on the shores of Peters Pond in Barnstable County, where Cape Cod's characteristic freshwater kettle ponds—formed by retreating glaciers over 10,000 years ago—offer swimming, boating, and fishing in crystal-clear natural lake environments that have made the Cape's inner ponds the anchor of summer family camping for generations of New England visitors. Positioned in Sandwich, Cape Cod's oldest town and the western gateway to the peninsula, the campground places guests at the intersection of the Cape's natural and cultural heritage. The campground's facilities are centered on Peters Pond itself, with a beach for swimming, boat docks, a boat ramp for guests who bring their own watercraft, and the full hookup RV sites and big-rig-capable sites that serve the Cape Cod camping market's diverse visitor population. A playground, basketball court, laundry, and Wi-Fi address the practical and recreational needs of families planning extended Cape Cod stays, and the pet-friendly atmosphere welcomes the dogs that many New England families consider essential companions on outdoor vacations. Peters Pond's naturally clear water, fed by the Cape's groundwater lens rather than surface runoff, provides swimming conditions that meet the quality expectations of the New England camping family. Sandwich is the most historically layered of Cape Cod's fifteen towns, settled in 1637 and home to the Sandwich Glass Museum—dedicated to the town's remarkable nineteenth-century glass manufacturing industry—and the Heritage Museums and Gardens, a 100-acre property with rotating exhibits of American folk art and antique automobiles in a botanical garden setting that draws visitors regardless of beach conditions. The Cape Cod Canal, immediately north of Sandwich, is one of the most heavily trafficked canals in the world and provides spectator recreation as freighters, tankers, and pleasure boats navigate the sea-level cut connecting Cape Cod Bay to Buzzards Bay. The Cape Cod National Seashore, preserving 40 miles of undeveloped Atlantic barrier beach on the Cape's outer arm, is accessible in approximately 45 minutes from Sandwich and represents the definitive Cape Cod beach experience—10-to-20-foot ocean bluffs above wide, dune-backed Atlantic beaches that the National Park Service maintains in a natural state without the development that lines much of Cape Cod's commercial shoreline. The Shining Sea Bikeway from Falmouth to Woods Hole, the Cape Cod Rail Trail through the mid-Cape, and the Sandy Neck barrier beach system in Sandwich's own Barnstable County extend the outdoor recreation options available to guests with bicycles and kayaks. Dunroamin on Peters Pond operates seasonally from late spring through Labor Day in the New England Cape Cod pattern, with the mid-June through August peak season filling the campground with Massachusetts and northeast corridor families whose Cape Cod summer has centered on Peters Pond's swimming and boating for decades. The shoulder seasons of late May and September offer the most comfortable weather, lighter crowds on the Cape's beaches, and the possibility of same-week availability that peak season's advance reservation requirement eliminates. The Cape Cod tourism pattern fills campground rosters well before summer, making early-year reservations essential for July and August visits.
