5.01 reviewsI'm on Vacation RV Camper Retreat in St. Bernard, Louisiana, provides a boat-dock-equipped waterfront fishing and camping retreat in St. Bernard Parish on the Mississippi River delta fringe below New Orleans, where Louisiana's coastal marsh, bayou, and open water ecosystem creates one of the most productive fishing environments in the Gulf Coast region and one of the most ecologically and culturally distinctive corners of the American South. Positioned in the parish that bore the full brunt of Hurricane Katrina's storm surge in 2005 and has since rebuilt as a tightly knit community of genuine resilience, the retreat serves anglers, nature travelers, and visitors seeking authentic coastal Louisiana culture beyond the New Orleans tourist corridor.
The retreat's facilities focus on the boat-centric lifestyle that St. Bernard Parish's waterway access demands: boat docks provide direct vessel access to the Breton Sound and the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet canal network, and fishing guide services connect guests with local expertise essential for navigating the parish's complex marsh and open-water fishery. Wi-Fi and pet-friendly policies provide connectivity and companion access for the extended-stay guests and fishing groups that characterize the retreat's primary visitor community, and the waterfront setting delivers the sensory character of the Louisiana coastal marsh—heron rookeries, pelican flocks, the smell of salt air and cypress—that distinguishes this retreat from standard RV park experiences.
St. Bernard Parish's coastal marsh is part of the greater Mississippi River delta ecosystem—one of the most biologically productive estuarine systems in the world, where freshwater from the continent's interior mixes with Gulf salinity in the nutrient gradient that supports extraordinary concentrations of speckled trout, redfish, flounder, and the giant blue and brown shrimp harvested by the commercial fleet still operating from Delacroix Island and Yscloskey at the parish's lower end. The marsh's bird life is equally exceptional, with roseate spoonbills, brown pelicans, and the vast winter concentration of migratory waterfowl making St. Bernard Parish's coastal ponds and marshes a premier waterfowl hunting and wildlife viewing destination.
The Chalmette Battlefield and National Cemetery, in the parish's upper section, preserves the site of the January 1815 Battle of New Orleans where Andrew Jackson's improbable coalition force defeated the British in the final major engagement of the War of 1812—a battle fought two weeks after the peace treaty was signed but that nonetheless made Jackson a national hero and reshaped American political history. New Orleans' French Quarter, Magazine Street, and the broader cultural ecosystem of the most historically layered city in the American South are accessible via LA-46 and the Judge William Seeber Bridge approximately 12 miles upriver.
I'm on Vacation RV Camper Retreat operates year-round in St. Bernard Parish's Gulf Coast subtropical climate, with the speckled trout and redfish fishing seasons maintaining year-round productivity in the marsh and open-bay system and the waterfowl hunting season from November through January bringing a distinct outdoor recreation community to the coastal parish each fall. The retreat's proximity to New Orleans makes it a viable alternative base for guests who want both city access and the authentic Louisiana coastal experience that the French Quarter's immediate vicinity cannot deliver. Mardi Gras season's celebration in the St. Bernard Parish communities adjacent to New Orleans provides a local alternative to the crowded Quarter experience.
