Southern Hammock

Reddick, Florida

60 RV Sites

Two miles off Interstate 75 at Exit 368 in Reddick, Florida—in Marion County between Ocala and Gainesville in the heart of Florida's internationally recognized horse country where 900-plus thoroughbred farms, the World Equestrian Center, and the specific red clay soil geology that makes Marion County's limestone-underlain pastures the most productive thoroughbred breeding ground in the Western Hemisphere create a regional identity that extends well beyond recreational tourism—Southern Hammock, now a Livingfully Resort, provides the amenity infrastructure that earned and maintains its Good Sam 10/10/10 rating in the most recognized campground quality designation in North America. The 10/10/10 rating, the horse country context, and the I-75 access combine the three factors that most reliably fill Southern Hammock's sites with the demographic that researches campground quality before booking. Full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections accommodate the full range of coach and fifth wheel sizes. A large heated swimming pool operates year-round in Marion County's subtropical climate, where winter temperatures remain warm enough for pool use during the snowbird season that fills Florida campgrounds from November through April. A spacious dog park provides off-leash exercise infrastructure for the traveling pets that the full-time and extended-stay RV community brings in higher proportions than weekend campers. Shuffleboard courts, bocce ball, hiking trails on the resort's natural lands, organized card games, and access to golf cart rentals extend the organized recreation calendar. A fitness center, clubhouse, and game lounge provide the indoor alternatives. A general store, post office access, business services, propane refilling, trash service, activity equipment rental, and on-site laundry rooms complete the resort infrastructure. Food trucks provide additional dining options year-round on a rotating schedule that the resort maintains for the extended-stay population. Marion County's horse farm landscape—visible from the rural roads connecting Reddick to Ocala and Gainesville—constitutes one of the most distinctive agricultural landscapes in the United States. The 900-plus thoroughbred farms produce horses that race at Churchill Downs, Belmont Park, and Saratoga, and the breeding and training infrastructure has made Ocala the center of American thoroughbred production since the 1940s. The World Equestrian Center north of Ocala—one of the largest equestrian facilities in the world—hosts competitions, festivals, and events throughout the year that provide the equestrian tourism programming that the horse country identity makes commercially viable. The Ocala National Forest—252,000 acres of longleaf pine, sandhill scrub, and spring-fed rivers including Silver Springs and the Rainbow River—provides the public lands outdoor recreation access adjacent to the campground. Silver Springs State Park's glass-bottom boat tours over the springs that produce 550 million gallons of 72-degree water per day, and the Rainbow River's crystal-clear tubing run, constitute two specifically Florida natural experiences within 30 miles of the campground that guests who discover Florida's inland spring culture typically find as memorable as any ocean beach. Southern Hammock is open year-round. The snowbird season from October through April represents the extended-stay peak when northern RV travelers fill Marion County campgrounds for the winter. Reserve early for November through March when the horse farm landscape is at its most active and the campground fills at capacity for weeks at a time. Let the Good Sam 10/10/10 rating deliver what the designation means in practice: a clean, well-maintained, beautifully maintained Florida horse-country resort that earns the score on every visit.
