Cabin on the Lake

Lake Helen, Florida

4 Suites

In the quiet heart of Volusia County, where the spring-fed lakes of Florida's inland highlands reflect a slower pace than the Atlantic Coast resorts just 30 miles east, Cabin on the Lake brings a bed-and-breakfast sensibility to a lakefront property on Lake Helen—a small, clear lake in the historic community of Lake Helen that offers a genuinely peaceful alternative to the crowded resort corridor of the Daytona Beach area. The property's private dock, canoe rentals, bicycle access, and lakeside setting create an unhurried outdoor experience that blends fishing, paddling, and nature-watching with the comfort of a well-maintained guesthouse. Room options include air-conditioned family rooms with private bathrooms and garden or lake views, providing flexibility for both couples and families seeking an inland Florida escape. Guests enjoy a lakeside sun terrace, a comfortable garden, a firepit, free Wi-Fi, and a fitness center that serves those who maintain exercise routines while traveling. An on-site game room and arcade provide indoor entertainment when Florida's afternoon rain showers move through, and a coffee shop and outdoor barbecue facilities round out the social infrastructure. The private dock gives guests immediate access to Lake Helen for fishing, canoe excursions, and simply sitting above the water at dusk when the lake surface turns gold and the cypress trees along the far shore cast their reflections in the still water. Lake Helen itself is one of Volusia County's clearest and most attractive inland lakes, fed by the same aquifer system that supplies the spring rivers of the central Florida highlands. The community of Lake Helen, incorporated in 1891, has preserved a Victorian-era character in its residential streets that sets it apart from the commercial development of the surrounding communities. Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp, just a mile away and continuously operating since 1875, represents one of the most unusual communities in America—a neighborhood of practicing spiritualists, mediums, and psychic readers whose Victorian cottages and formal camp meeting grounds draw curious visitors from across the country to this central Florida village. DeLand, Volusia County's attractive and culturally active county seat, lies a short drive west and provides a full range of dining, arts, and the Stetson University campus along its tree-lined downtown corridor. Blue Spring State Park, one of Florida's most spectacular springs and the winter congregation site for manatees returning from the St. Johns River, lies about 15 miles west and provides swimming, kayaking, and some of the most reliable manatee viewing in the state from November through March. Daytona Beach, with its Atlantic surf, motorsport history at the Daytona International Speedway, and Boardwalk entertainment, lies about 30 miles east along the same US 92 corridor. The inland Volusia County location gives Cabin on the Lake a year-round camping season with the mild winters that distinguish central Florida from the temperature swings of the upper South. Spring brings the clearest lake water and the most active bass fishing before the summer rains arrive, while fall provides a brief respite from summer humidity and a second peak of outdoor activity before the winter holiday visitors discover what Florida snowbirds have long known—that inland Volusia County offers extraordinary value and natural beauty in quiet contrast to the crowded Atlantic Coast.
