Mountainaire Campground and RV Park
Nanaimo, British Columbia
26 RV Sites, 5 Cabins, 16 Tent Sites, 3 Onsite RV/Trailers
Mountainaire Campground and RV Park in Nanaimo, British Columbia, is a full-spectrum camping destination on Vancouver Island with RV sites at 30 and 50-amp service, cabins, tent sites, and on-site RV and trailer rentals in the lush green setting of the Nanaimo Regional District — a campground positioned on British Columbia's most populous island, the second-largest city on Vancouver Island, and the primary ferry gateway between the BC Lower Mainland and the island's west coast communities, parks, and the Pacific Rim's rain forest and surf beach landscape. Nanaimo's regional district position on the Strait of Georgia gives the campground the full Vancouver Island orientation — north to the Comox Valley and Campbell River, south to Victoria, and west to the Alberni Inlet, Pacific Rim National Park, and Tofino.
RV sites at 30 and 50-amp service, cabins, tent sites, and on-site RV and trailer rentals give Mountainaire the accommodation range to serve the full spectrum of Vancouver Island camping visitors — the rental RV and trailer option specifically enables guests who travel without their own equipment to experience the island in a self-contained camping format that the BC Ferry's vehicle deck specifically accommodates, and the cabin option gives the accommodation-seeking couple or family the Vancouver Island outdoors experience without the equipment logistics of tent camping in the Island's frequent maritime rain. Pets are welcome.
Vancouver Island's natural landscape is among the most diverse and most spectacular in Canada — the Island encompasses old-growth Douglas fir and western red cedar forests whose individual trees exceed 800 years in age, the Strathcona Provincial Park's wilderness alpine above 2,200 metres, the passive and active volcanic terrain of the Island's central spine, and the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve's 75 kilometres of surf-pounded beach on the island's southwest coast where the Long Beach Unit's ancient temperate rainforest meets the open Pacific in the most dramatic coastal landscape on the Canadian side of the North Pacific. Newcastle Island Marine Provincial Park, accessible by foot passenger ferry from Nanaimo's downtown waterfront, provides the most immediately accessible island wilderness walk from the city centre.
Tofino, 180 kilometres west of Nanaimo via the Trans-Canada and Pacific Rim Highway, is one of Canada's most celebrated outdoor tourism destinations — a small coastal community at the end of the Tofino road whose Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the world-class surfing at Chesterman Beach and Cox Bay, and the grey whale and black bear wildlife viewing sustain the specific outdoor adventure and eco-tourism economy that has made the Tofino area the premier BC coastal destination for the Vancouver and Victoria urban markets.
Mountainaire Campground serves guests through the Vancouver Island camping season from spring through fall, with the BC Day long weekend in August representing the peak family camping demand and the spring and fall seasons sustaining the outdoor and cultural tourism from the Victoria and Vancouver markets that make year-round Island exploration viable in the Island's mild maritime climate. The Nanaimo Bathtub Race's summer tradition and the Vancouver Island MusicFest in Courtenay extend the campground's day-trip entertainment range into the Island's community festival calendar. Reserve sites, cabins, and rental RVs well ahead for the summer peak and BC Day weekend, when Vancouver Island campground availability across all accommodation formats fills from the mainland and international visitor market.
