Fort Morgan RV Park
Gulf Shores, Alabama
30 RV Sites, 2 Cabins
Positioned on scenic Bon Secour Bay where Mobile Bay narrows toward the Gulf of Mexico, Fort Morgan RV Park delivers a boutique waterfront experience that has little in common with the sprawling resort campgrounds dominating Gulf Shores proper. Only 35 sites share the property—seven of them occupying prime bayfront positions where sunrises paint the water in coral and gold and dolphins cruise past the fishing pier most mornings. The combination of bay access, cottage accommodations, and a peaceful back-bay setting makes this park a preferred destination for anglers, kayakers, and anyone who prefers watching pelicans over poolside lounging.
Full-hookup RV sites offer 50-amp and 30-amp electrical service alongside pull-through options for large rigs, and a recently constructed bathhouse with laundry facilities keeps the infrastructure current. Fiber-powered Wi-Fi blankets the property, and free cable television connects every site for guests who want to unwind in the evening. Cozy cottage studios provide an alternative to RV living for guests who travel without a rig, and the park's pet-friendly policies welcome four-legged travel companions throughout the grounds.
The fishing pier stretches into Bon Secour Bay and serves as the park's social hub, where two fish cleaning stations process the day's catch while resident pelicans wait nearby with obvious intent. Anglers work the bay for speckled trout, flounder, and redfish from the pier or from kayaks and paddleboards launched at the park's private sandy beach. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available on-site, and the protected bay waters offer a calm, wave-free environment ideal for beginners and children learning to paddle. Crabbing from the pier rounds out the tidewater activity menu when fish aren't cooperating.
Historic Fort Morgan, the 1833 brick fortress that anchored the Confederate defense of Mobile Bay during the Civil War, stands just minutes from the park entrance—its star-shaped ramparts and museum interpreting one of the conflict's decisive naval engagements. Gulf Shores' white sand beaches and Gulf State Park's award-winning educational center lie about 15 miles east on the Fort Morgan peninsula, easily reached by the scenic two-lane road traversing this quiet barrier spit. The Mobile Bay Ferry, running between Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island, offers a scenic shortcut to the Alabama coast's western reaches and adds a nautical excursion to any stay. The Dauphin Island Audubon Bird Sanctuary, one of the top migratory bird concentration points on the Gulf, makes the ferry crossing doubly worthwhile during spring and fall migration.
Winter snowbirds discover that Fort Morgan's off-peak season is among the Gulf Coast's best-kept secrets—mild temperatures, uncrowded waters, and excellent fishing for redfish and sheepshead prevail from November through February. Peak summer season fills the park from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Gulf Shores beach traffic makes reservations essential weeks or months in advance. Book the seven waterfront sites as early as possible—once guests experience a morning coffee on the bay with dolphins in the channel, those spots rarely come open without a waiting list.
