Cullman, Alabama, sits midway along I-65 between Birmingham and Huntsville in the rolling hills of North Alabama, and Unhitched Cullman occupies 40 acres of countryside just minutes from that corridor. Farm animals roam the property's grounds, a detail that makes this campground feel distinctly unlike the concrete pads of the interstate travel plaza alternatives up the road. Whether the draw is Smith Lake minutes away, the area's unusual spiritual landmarks, or the summer country music events that make Cullman briefly one of the loudest places in Alabama, the campground positions guests well for all of it. Unhitched Cullman accommodates guests across several styles: spacious full-hookup pull-through and back-in RV sites for daily and weekly stays, two-bedroom one-bathroom tiny home cabins with full amenities, and glamping tents in two-, three-, and four-person configurations with plush bedding and air conditioning. A dedicated dog park serves guests traveling with pets, and strong Wi-Fi throughout the property makes remote work practical for those extending their stay into the week. The farm animals visible from various parts of the property — a simple detail that children in particular tend to remember — reflect the campground's genuine rural character rather than a manufactured pastoral aesthetic. Smith Lake, one of the largest lakes in Alabama, stretches across roughly 21,000 acres of clear water in the hills south and west of Cullman. The lake's remarkable clarity — attributed to the granite and sandstone geology of the basin — makes it unusually attractive for swimming, powerboating, and water skiing, and local marinas provide boat rentals and launch access for guests without their own watercraft. Sportsman Lake Park in Cullman offers a more contained afternoon option, with paddle boats and walking paths around a smaller impoundment. Hurricane Creek Park's rocky trails through dramatic sandstone gorges and Rickwood Caverns State Park's guided underground tours round out the area's outdoor offerings. Cullman's most visited cultural attractions are both spiritual in character and genuinely unlike anything else in the region. The Ave Maria Grotto, on the grounds of Saint Bernard Abbey in town, displays more than 125 miniature reproductions of famous religious landmarks — including St. Peter's Basilica, the Lourdes Grotto, and Jerusalem's Holy Sepulchre — handcrafted over 50 years by a Benedictine monk using concrete, stone, and salvaged materials. The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, about 20 minutes north in Hanceville, draws pilgrims from across the country to a complex of extraordinary architecture set in quiet natural surroundings that feels genuinely tucked away from the modern world. The Cullman Strawberry Festival brings live music, craft vendors, and food to downtown in the spring, and the Festhalle Farmers Market runs throughout the growing season. Rock the South, a multi-day country music festival that draws nationally touring headliners, arrives in late July and fills every accommodation in the area well in advance — the campground's position near I-65 makes it a practical home base for festival-goers who need space and parking rather than a downtown hotel room. The property's relaxed pace and farm character attract guests who value authenticity over resort-style programming, and the repeat-visit rate among Unhitched regulars reflects that the combination works.

Long, full hop-up pull-through sites only a couple of miles off of I65. Our dogs love their dog park and we love their excellent wifi.
